Getting caught up a bit from some of the spectators. Like we guessed, these guys are running and gunning. We just learned that KVD went to a place called the McCracken. I'm not even sure of the spelling. But if you've watched The Wrath of the Titans, then you will understand what went through my mind when I heard that: Uh oh, KVD fixin' to release the McCracken on that ...
Kevin VanDam has to be feeling some pressure right now, as much as KVD can feel after accomplishing two lifetimes worth of B.A.S.S. titles. He knows four bass weighing 8 1/2 pounds isn't going to get it done today. VanDam is at Great Lakes Marina, fishing near the Milwaukee Clipper ship that is now permanently anchored here. He's having to spend some time directing traffic among the observer boats he has following him. VanDam is working the channel edges as he goes back into the marina.
We just rolled up on Alton Jones. He's fishing shallow, real shallow. The rest of the field has been in the 8- to 10-feet range. Alton is pitching around docks. And in the short time we've been here, he's culled twice. Jonathon VanDam says with the sun coming out, he could make a move doing this. One of the spectators just told us that he culled once before we got here.
I've been holed up in master control, putting together a gallery of Hank Cherry's morning so I've been out of touch. It looks like Cherry had added a couple, which means he's continuing to drop the cherry bomb on the rest of the field. He's in, or at least should be, so we are going to hop around and try to get one of the anglers trying to make a move for the final four. We expect that to be in the 25 pound total range, so our choices are numerous at the moment.
