Things are looking up after last week. I was down after Florida. As good as the fishing was — and is — down there, it wasn't real good for me.
I'm pointed north towards Pickwick Lake and the third Elite Series tournament of the year. I'm really looking forward to it, too. I like Pickwick.
How about that young man from my neighborhood! He gave a darn good accounting of himself last week. I, for one, couldn't be happier about it.
The Florida swing is history. Speaking for myself, I'm sad to see it go. I haven't caught a bass outside of the Sunshine State since before Thanksgiving, and that's just fine with me.

Bassmaster Elite Series pro Charlie HartleyI'm on the Harris Chain practicing for the first Elite Series event later this week. I have to say that what I'm seeing doesn't exactly cheer me up.
When you read this, I'll be on the road again headed toward Florida for the start of the Elite season. I can't wait.
Forgive me if I brag just a little. You'll notice that my pick to win — KVD — did just that. OK, he wasn't exactly a dark horse, and my second pick had a miserable tournament, but still I got it right.
As Friday morning approaches, I can't help but think back to my own Classic appearance in 2008 on Lake Hartwell.
It's just a little over a week until the guys launch their boats in the 2011 Bassmaster Classic. What an event!
