Davis and VanDam

Apr 6, 2014

Davis is the antithesis of KVD when it comes to speed. While KVD covers a lot of water, Davis has been slow and meticulous. We are still in the first place he started and Davis has easily caught two dozen fish in that time, often sitting his boat in the same place for several minutes casting to the same place. It's been said he's a master at milking a school of fish. You can see that mastery today and it comes one slow cast after the other.

KVD with another 3-pounder

Kevin VanDam is on fire, catching two fish with three casts. The first fish was a 3-pounder or more. He's throwing a crankbait now.

KVD culling

Apr 6, 2014

Kevin VanDam just caught a 2 pounder and culled. He's fishing on a shallow point and appeared to catch the fish near some exposed timber. He's in the zone, moving quickly with very little wasted motion.

Davis wading through small fish

Apr 6, 2014

I've been away from my phone for a while, following Mark Davis from the bank. In that time he's continued to wade through the small fish. And he's also boated another 3-pounder. That should easily put him in the 13 1/2 pound range, possibly as high as 14 pounds.

VanDam with a limit

Apr 6, 2014

Kevin VanDam just caught his 5th keeper.  He said it's a 3 pounder, his best of the day. He's fishing in a little cut right next to Anderson's Valley View Resort's boat dock.

McClelland looking for Elite number four

Apr 6, 2014

After winning an Elite tournament in each of the first three seasons (2006-08), Mike McClelland has been in a drought. He hasn't won since March of 2008 on the Harris Chain. If he can hold on to win, he will join Kevin VanDam (6), Tommy Biffle (4), Todd Faircloth (4) and Skeet Reese (4) as the only anglers with four or more Elite wins. A strong comeback from Edwin Evers could also give him a fourth Elite win, but he has six pounds to make up. That makes him a long shot at Table Rock.

KVD puts No.4 in livewell

Apr 6, 2014

Kevin VanDam just added keeper number 4 to his livewell. It's another small one, around 1.25 pounds. He's moving again, back out to a point 100 yards away. It's shallow here, about 6 feet deep, and the wind has picked up.   Kevin has three spectator boats following him today. Normally he'd have more, but the chilly temps are likely keeping some fans indoors.
