Table Rock lunkers

Apr 6, 2014

The heaviest lunker in Table Rock's B.A.S.S. history weighed 9-5 and was caught by Mark Pack during the 1999 Missouri Invitational. In 2005, Aaron Martens caught a 9-0 on Day 2 of the Bassmaster Tour event, paving the way to his first AOY (he clinched it on the final day of that tournament). Martens' 8-0 on Day 1 this year is the biggest Elite Series bass in Table Rock history.

Davis milking big bay

Apr 6, 2014

Davis has made his fourth and longest move of the day, about 600 yards. He's right where he made his first cast of the day and eventually caught his first keeper.   It looks like he's going to milk this big bay for all it's worth. He needs a 4-pounder to make a difference in his stringer. He's still wading through the small ones, but evidently he believes this is where that sort of fish will show itself. He's back to the Rage Menace at the moment, and he's caught two in less than five casts but neither will help.

What tackle is KVD using today?

Apr 6, 2014

What tackle is Kevin VanDam using today? He's throwing a Strike King KVD Series Jerkbait, the crystal shad color. He's using the KVD signature Quantum rods and his signature Quantum reels. I mentioned earlier he's using KVD hooks from Mustad. Clearly Kevin stands behind the products he helps create!

KVD fans brave the cold

The cold and wind won't keep the fans from following Kevin VanDam today.

A 2-rod man

Apr 6, 2014

Davis has now become a 2-rod man. He put down his Rage Menace a few minutes ago and started throwing a crankbait. He was promptly rewarded with a keeper, but after digging through his well decided it was no help and returned it.    He's caught a couple more on the crankbait as well. The wind may have forced him to fish for those reaction bites.

KVD's a hook freak

Apr 6, 2014

Kevin VanDam has taken a brief timeout from fishing to change out his hooks. He's sitting down in his boat for this little operation.   After catching a bunch of fish today, approximately a dozen, and dragging his lures through a lot of wood, it appears Kevin believes it's time for sharper hooks.   Darren Jacobson, who has photographed KVD fishing many times, calls him a "hook freak."   In case you're wondering, Kevin is using Mustad Ultrapoint KVD Triple Grip Treble Hooks.

Martens starts culling

Aaron just caught another 2-pounder and culled. I jumped on his boat to join him now.

McClelland moves up the lake

Apr 6, 2014

Mike McClelland finally left his Kimberling City cove and moved up the lake to another cove that the wind is blowing directly into. He just caught his 4th keeper, but it didn't help him much. When asked how much weight he had, McClelland said, "Barely eight."   His mood just improved quickly when he caught his biggest fish of the day, a 2 1/2-pounder, on a Wiggle Wart.   "Hopefully, that will be my smallest one at the end of the day," he said.

Davis continues to upgrade

Apr 6, 2014

While typing the last post, Davis caught another one right at the boat. Couldn't get a glimpse of the size. But he culled with it. His stringer is growing.   My guess, and only a guess, is in the 16-pound neighborhood. We will check later when we get close to him. But one giant and he could be hard to catch.
