Card and Walker

Mar 22, 2013

It didn't take long before left for greener pastures. We peeled off and are now sitting in between Brandon Card and David Walker. They are about 150 yards apart, doing basically the same thing. But their proximity and fish in the boat are a good example of getting the right bites.   Card has three in the well. All of them caught in the last 30 minutes. One of those is a 7, the others are 4 and 3 pounders, for about 14 and change total. Meanwhile, Walker has a 5-fish limit, but they only weigh "maybe 11-pounds."

Each angler is doing a little something different

Mar 22, 2013

Kelly Jaye, John Murray, Boyd Duckett and Skeet Reese are all working the face of the dam. Jaye with the most notable bag around 21-22 pounds.     Each angler is doing a little something different. Boyd has an 8 that he caught on a Senko and Jaye's two 7's came on a Jerkbait.

Looking for duck eaters

Mar 22, 2013

Charlie Hartley started the day with 22 pounds, 5 ounces of fish and that put him in 29th place. He said he's seen a shad bite going on, but that he was interested in going after something bigger than the bass eating that forage.   "The ones eating the shad aren't the ones you want to bring in. The ones that are eating small ducks, that's the ones you want," he said with a hearty laugh.   From the looks of it, there are lot of "duck eaters" coming in this morning on Falcon. Exciting stuff, indeed.

Elias and Reed

Mar 22, 2013

We left Elias to sit with Matt Reed. As soon as we pulled up he caught his limit fish, a 2-pounder.   That was his smallest in the well. He has a 6, 5 and a 4 to go with two keepers. He figures 19-pounds total. And like all these pros, he was quick to point out "it's not enough."   That could be the case for Reed. He should have enough to fish Friday, but he's a heavy favorite in this event. My guess is he still has visions of winning, which means he needs to be knocking on the 30-pound door by day's end.

Morris has 20 pounds

Mar 22, 2013

We’ve caught up with Rick Morris, who’s currently working a hump. There are several in the area, but he said that the one he’s fishing has been the only one that’s any good. It tops out at 14 feet or so of water and is littered with rocks. He’s throwing a Carolina rigged lizard and is inching it along. We’re just into Mexico. Morris says he’s got roughly 20 pounds already, but is looking for a few big bites. He’s got cookie-cutter 4s.

Elias has to perform to stay another day

Mar 22, 2013

We just pulled up on Paul Elias, who won here in a giant and magical way in 2008. The giants and magic have abandoned him this go around.   He struggled a bit on Day One, and is in danger of being eliminated. He has to perform to stay another day.   Our timing was good. Elias only had a single keeper in the boat when we got here, but within the first few minutes he hooked up with a 4 pounder that put on a show for us before Elias could get a hand on him.
