Local flavor

Aug 25, 2013

Anytime I get the opportunity to hit the tournament trail I also make it a point to find what the local specialty is. I had Detroit circled on my calendar because I'd heard about Buddy's Pizza. It did not disappoint. Detroit-style pizza is square and called "Greek pizza".  If you find yourself fishing Lake St. Clair, I highly suggest you get yourself some of it. I am not sponsored by Buddy's, but after this meal am willing to listen to any offers.

Chris Lane lands another one

Aug 25, 2013

Lane just landed back to back 2 pounders. He is working the his area by drifting. After his drift he fires up the main engine and runs back to his starting over. He just landed another that looks to be 2.5 pounds. He just switched to a bait cast combo and a tube. All the prior fish came on the drop shot. His total looks to be 16 pounds or so.

Lane catching 'em

Aug 25, 2013

Lane has two fish. He just landed a fish about 4 pounds and now a 3-pounder. He is sharing the water with local walleye anglers. He should have a little over 11 pounds. Alton Jones is close also.

Davis gunning for first win since 2005

Aug 25, 2013

Mark Davis is trying to finish off this tournament that he has led for the past two days. If he can close it out, it would be his first Bassmaster win since 2005. That's a long dry spell for one of the most accomplished anglers in BASS history, and one of the all-time nicest guys on the circuit. Davis has won both the Bassmaster Classic (1995) and three Angler of the Year titles ('95, '98 and '01). He will be 50 years old in October, and he'd relish proving today that he's still got what it takes to win out here.

Chris Lane has his first fish

Aug 25, 2013

Chris Lane has his first fish at about 3 /12 pounds, and he's fishing a visible distance from Alton Jones.

BassTrakk issues

Aug 25, 2013

According to BassTrakk, Alton Jones is still here at Metro Park. That is inaccurate. It appears that his Basstrakk unit went down this morning right before launch. We are working to correct this issue now.

A slightly later start today

Aug 25, 2013

Takeoff time for the 12 finalists today was 6:45 a.m., instead of the 6:30 start on the previous three days. Check-in time is 3:15. The change was made to accommodate photography. And a beautiful morning it is in Detroit: partly cloudy skies, 62 degrees, with a predicted high in the mid to upper 80s. Wind is the key weather factor for the anglers making long runs - whether to Lake Erie or Lake Huron. It's supposed to be 10 to 15 miles per hour out of the southwest.

Day Four launch on St. Clair

The final day on Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River is here.

Lone wolf Davis

Aug 25, 2013

It's obvious that Davis isn't fishing a community hole. He's in the middle of Lake Erie, and as far as you can see in any direction there are no other tournament fishermen in sight. It's a desert of water. David found his big smallies on his own in one day of practice. That speaks highly of his ability to use this electronics, his brain and his tackle to find out where the bass are and what they're doing.
