Edwin Evers is having one of the best years of his career in 2013 and appears on the fast track to winning Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year. In the middle of the fifth event in an eight tournament season, he leads his closest challenger (seven-time AOY Kevin VanDam) by 33 points. Skeet Reese is just four points back of VanDam.
Edwin Evers continues to pick up and move up and down the banks of the Bouldin Dam Canal, giving his trolling motor a good workout. I'm pretty certain he's running a StructureScan to see where fish may be holding. The center of this canal is approximately 40 feet deep, but the shorelines are anywhere from 10 to 20 feet with a steep slope. The canal itself is no more than 50 yards wide where we are now, about a half-mile from the imposing dam itself.
We've been struggling with digital connectivity in a small corner of the Bouldin Dam Canal. Not sure what has been seen the past hour, but here are a few details. Nothing is happening in this canal. Edwin Evers, current Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year points leader and the man sitting in third place in this tournament, hasn't boated a fish in more than an hour. He's working both sides of the canal patiently, though. Chris Zaldain is closer to the dam, but we've yet to catch up with him to inquire of his catch.

Tournament Director Trip Weldon tells us the launch location on Sunday will be the Montgomery Riverfront at 6:30 a.m. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the launch took place at Cooters Pond in Prattville.
This fish is Crochet's fourth of the day. It was a nice 4-pound largemouth that crushed his frog. Submitted by Bassmaster Marshal Kenny Yarnell
He came into today's competition in 30th place. That doesn't sound that impressive, especially for the greatest bass angler of all-time, but it sets another Elite Series record. Kevin VanDam has now made the first cut (top 50) in 25 consecutive tournaments. After Day 1, it didn't look like it was going to be easy. KVD was in 53rd place. But a solid charge on Day 2 moved him up 23 places and safely inside the first cut.
