Coming into the 2009 Classic, Skeet Reese wasn’t on the radar of many pundits, despite having won the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year in 2007.
Reese swings a Red River keeper into his boat. Skeet finished Day One in 13th place.
Camping out on a spot that funneled fish to him, Reese brought in a 22-pound, 9-ounce bag on Day Two to jump into second place.
Reese lands what he thinks is the winning fish, and he went on to edge Mike Iaconelli by 11 ounces.
In 2010, Kevin VanDam won the Classic fishing in the back of Beeswax Creek.
Fishing not far from KVD, Jeff Kriet led heading into the final day on Lay Lake.
VanDam makes a small move as he remained in Beeswax, which ended up being the right move.
Kriet once again was foiled by his friend and business partner, who also edged him out in an Elite event on Grand Lake. Half of Kriet’s second-place finishes were behind KVD.

Kevin VanDam staked out an area that continued to draw Louisiana Delta bass.
Aaron Martens yanks in a fish in front of KVD as their proximity allowed the anglers to display some showmanship.
Not much further apart than a cast, Martens and VanDam slugged it out.
Anglers like Derek Remitz also got into the act, hauling in fish after fish.
Remitz finished third behind KVD and Martens, and others fishing the area included Brandon Palaniuk (4th), Boyd Duckett (6th) and Scott Rook (7th).
Kevin Vandam set the Classic total weight record in winning his record-tying fourth Bassmaster Classic.
