Inside Trevor Lo's boat

Classic qualifier Trevor Lo stopped by B.A.S.S. headquarters on his way to the first Southern Open of the year. Trevor qualified by winning the College Classic Bracket against the best the Carhartt College Series has to offer. He’s following in the footsteps of Brett Preuett, Matt Lee and Jordan Lee. Part of the deal was use of a truck and boat for a year.

Driving from Minnesota during the winter means you get salt all over your truck. Trevor promises to give it a good wash soon.

Like a lot of anglers, Trevor will be staying in the Tundra Hotel as he fishes all nine Opens this year after winning the College Bracket. This is what Brett Preuett did last year, and Preuett made the Bassmaster Elite Series this year. Trevor wouldn’t mind going down that path, too.

Enough about his sweet truck; part of winning the Classic Bracket means you get to tow around a brand new Skeeter all year. Let’s check it out.

The Skeeter FX20 is a sleek, bass-catching machine.

This boat is so new to Trevor that he was literally still unpacking in our parking lot. He found a note from his girlfriend in one of his boxes, but that’s a private matter!

Fronting his Skeeter, Lo will be running a 36v Minn Kota Fortrex 112.

PROcise Deck-It mounts will be keeping his Humminbird Helix 10s steady on the dash and bow.

As Lo was opening up each storage compartment and getting rods ready for photos, he commented several times about the tremendous amount of space that is available.

Rigid lights show the way inside each compartment. That’ll be extremely handy during those pre-dawn rigging sessions.

While he is still “moving in” to his new Skeeter, it’s obvious he’s space conscious and organized. Here he has quite a few Z-Man plastics in individual Ziploc bags, and there’s several spare spools of line within easy reach.

He offered this tip: Don’t mix different kinds of plastics, often the chemical makeups won’t agree, and they’ll begin to break down. His solution is to give each style, brand and color its own individual bag. Plus, these bags pack easily when the air is squeezed out.

With his Plano trays loaded and labeled, this thing is starting to look ready to battle some bass!

Lo’s jig box is organized and ready for the Kissimmee Chain, which is to be his first Open stop of the year. Again, his organization is pretty impressive.

Inside he has his favorite colors, many of which he feels will play throughout the season.

He laughs because he knows that even with his high level of organization, you can’t keep jerkbaits from getting all tangled up.

Trevor’s jig box is also labeled specifically, organized by weight and color.

One of Lo’s friends ties the skirts for his jigs, which helps him specifically match his pattern.

Inside one of his rod lockers are several brand-new 13 Fishing rod-and-reel combos, each reel covered by a Tackle Warehouse reel cover.

Right next to the driver’s console are the livewell switches, and… what is that other port for?

That third port is the power cord to charge the Skeeter’s four batteries. Pretty handy!

Inside Lo’s “glove box” are a few possibles. By the time he’s halfway through the season, there’s a good chance that this view will be quite different.

Being from Minnesota, Lo knows that keeping bug repellent on-hand is very important.

No boat is complete without a cooler. This is where Lo will keep his snacks and drinks for those long practice and tournament days.

The convenience of keeping tools handy should go without saying, but as you step up onto the front deck, tools are within easy reach.

There is another small storage compartment beneath the center seat/step up to the back deck. More storage is always a good thing.

Here’s the view from the cockpit. Lo will be spending a great deal of time in this very seat.

We mentioned how new this rig is for Lo. Well, as we were shooting pictures he was removing the plastic covers on each Humminbird. Brand-spanking new!

The boat really seems to have a natural fit for the young angler.

Motor trim and tilt on the left-hand side of the steering wheel.

And on the right is the trim for the hydraulic jackplate. Having these control switches on either side of the steering wheel allows for hands-on operation. In other words, he doesn’t need to move his hands when making adjustments, which is much safer.

Behind the driver’s seat is another storage compartment where he will keep life jackets.

The livewell is deep, and after his first time opening the lid, Lo was impressed.

A quality livewell is a key component to a successful angler. Skeeter makes sure that the fish will be well taken care of between getting hooked and the live release following each weigh-in.

Here’s a look into the power house of Lo’s new rig.

An easy to access and operate power switch is important to use when the boat is charging.

The Yamaha 250 Vmax makes a great marriage between boat and motor. Lo loves it, clearly.

Twin Blade Power-Poles bring up the rear, but are far from the least valuable tool on this rig.

A safety ladder is conveniently attached to the left Power-Pole. In the event an angler finds himself in the drink, this low-profile ladder deploys and stows easily.
