Spiderwire: Goretex/Dyneema braid
Spiderwire’s Goretex/Dyneema braid, a no-stretch braid that sinks like fluorocarbon, providing a belly-free link to Carolina rigs and wacky rigs. The line, which is half Goretex, half Dyneema, has the flex and castability of standard braid, and is reportedly even more abrasion-resistant. A 125-yard spool of 10-pound-test goes for $19.95
Berkley: Trilene’s new XL Armor Coated
Though Berkley’s new Nanofil Uni-Filament Line has drawn much of the attention at ICAST this year, company spokesman Clay Norris says that Trilene’s new XL Armor Coated is equally worthy of attention. The line is a “co-extrusion”, with a harder, more abrasion-resistant exterior extruded over a soft, flexible interior filament. The result is a monofilament line that is 40 percent more abrasion resistant than conventional nylon mono, and 30 percent more flexible, says Norris. The line is available in clear or green colors, and in tests from 6 to 20. A 220-yard spool is $8.99 for up to 8-pound-test, $9.99 for higher tests.
Vicious: Pro Elite fluorocarbon
Vicious’ new Pro Elite fluorocarbon is designed to compete with high-dollar fluorocarbons for strength, sensitivity and line diameter, all while being offered at a lower price. The Pro Elite formula is made with high-quality resins, is translucent and is formulated for low stretch, low memory and high abrasion resistance. Pro Elite is available in 4- to 25-pound tests, and in 200-, 500- and 800-yard spools.
Sunline: FX2
Sunline enlisted the help of frog-fishing technician Dean Rojas to create the ultimate frogging and flipping braid. The result is FX2, an 8-strand braided line that has a smooth surface and circular cross section. A circular — as opposed to oval — cross-section is said to cast smoother and be more consistent. FX2 is also engineered to hold its color for a long time.
P-Line: C21
Ranging from 4- to 30-pound tests, P-Line's new C21 copolymer bridges the gap between their CX-Premium and CXX-Xtra Strong at an affordable price. The MSRP will be $4.99 to $5.99.
Seaguar: Senshi
Better known for its fluorocarbon fishing line, Seaguar has introduced a premium, clear monofilament line that combines strength and sensitivity – two attributes of fluoro. Senshi line is touted for exceptional knot strength and tensile strength, yet it’s supple and castable, as mono should be. Look for it in 200-yard spools of 8- through 20-pound tests.
Berkley: NanoFil
NanoFil is made with Dyneema, which allows for longer casts and reduced air drag. It has zero memory and high sensitivity. NanoFil comes in sizes ranging from 1 to 12-pound-test.
Seaguar: Kanzen Line
“Kanzen” means “infinity” in Japanese, and it’s the name given a high-performance braid made from ultrathin microfiber strands in a high-density weave. Very thin in diameter, it is engineered for high knot strength and abrasion resistance. It’s available in green or white and tests ranging from 8 to 200.
