Slegona is still plugging away at his best spot. Almost all of the 10 boats that were once here are now gone. Gary Clouse was one of the last to leave. He was fishing a little deeper than Slegona, but after no luck, Clouse headed out. Once his rooster tail was just out of view, Slegona's co-angler hooked up. His first fish of the day was small keeper, but enough to restore hope that fish are still in this area. The clouds still cover the sky, but that was a bright spot for the Day 1 leaders area.
The sun came out! Well, just for a second before the wind blew more clouds our direction. The fronts are blowing through and it's changing the lighting. This might just be me, but I feel like Slegona is going to catch a good fish very soon. He has made his rounds and is coming back around to where he started. Any flip can be a giant down here.
See the pros and cos head out onto the water for the second day of the 2015 Bass Pro Shops Southern Open #1 on Lake Tohopekaliga.
Day 1 leader Andrew Slegona hooks up for the first time today. He swung about a 2 to 2 1/2 pounder into the boat. Nowhere near the size of his fish yesterday, as a 31-pound bag is hard to duplicate. It was around this time Day 1 that he caught his first fish as well. He's a steady worker and a quite composed right now.
Trying to fill the large shoes of James Overstreet this week, which is like trying to put a ketchup lid on a mayonnaise jar. But I'm doing what I can and figure what better place to launch. If you wanna be like Mike, wear Jordans. If you wanna shoot like JO put in at Overtreet's landing?
Notes from the 2015 Bass Pro Shops Southern Open #1 field.
I'm with the leader on his best spot aka "The Juice." He has nothing so far, but it wasn't until 10:30 yesterday when he loaded the boat. Sunlight is most likely Slegona's friend today, so the windy/overcast conditions could be a challenge. He also has some company. Russ Lane, I believe Gary Clouse and some others are in this area. Although, no one is close enough to talk. Everyone is just moving around this big area and keeping to themselves.
To my knowledge, of the Top 10 after Day 1, only one angler is primarily fishing Toho. Granted that angler does have a 6-pound lead. Ronnie Moore is on the water covering Day 1 leader Andrew Slegona and I'm headed south to Kissimmee to track down the remainder of the Top 10. Check back soon for more from the Kissimmee Chain.
Take a quick GoPro look behind the scenes before takeoff on Day 2 of the 2015 Bass Pro Shops Southern Open #1.
I'm with the leader to start Day 2. Andrew "AJ" Slegona has to have so many thoughts going through his mind. I'm sticking with him for a while because any flip could be a giant.
