Butcher culling continues

Sep 21, 2013

We've watched Terry Butcher cull twice more. The trade-ins are the 14-inch minimum keepers in his livewell. He's upgraded three of them so far. I blogged earlier about the first, a 4-pounder.

Edwin Evers checks in

Sep 21, 2013

James Overstreet's phone just rang and it was Edwin Evers. The Bassmaster Elite Series pro was calling to check in on his brother-in-law Terry Butcher.   James tells me he gave Edwin a ring last night for an intel report on where to find Butcher, also an Elite Series pro, and to get details on his game plan. Obviously, it changed since last night for the better.

Butcher culling up

Sep 21, 2013

Photo: James Overstreet   Terry Butcher just culled a 14-inch keeper and replaced it with a 4-pounder. Not a bad switch.    His decision to stay put and not make the long  run and lock through into the Kerr pool was a wise move.    He's cut back on the rotation of baits. The clear front-runner is the spinnerbait, which yielded the big fish.

Day Three launch on Arkansas River

The Opens anglers launch on the Arkansas River for the final day of the Central Open #2.

Butcher with a limit

Sep 21, 2013

Terry Butcher might have a leg up on the competition. Instead of wasting time with a long run and locking through to the next pool he's opted to stay near the takeoff site. In fact, he's directly across the river from Three Forks Harbor where the boat ramp is located.   Time could be a big factor today. This could be a wise move considering the competition for water has diminished to only 12 boats.   The decision has already paid off. Butcher has a limit weighing 10 pounds.

Saturday on the river

Sep 21, 2013

What a difference in the weather since this time yesterday. Yesterday at this time it was raining, the wind was calm and the temperature was in the 70s. By comparison it's sunny, the wind is out of the north and the temperature is in the 50s. There's some fog on the river.   Anyone in the top 5 could win this tournament, with only 2 pounds and ounces between leader Mark Goines and Terry Butcher.
