Howell marking his spots

Mar 22, 2014

When there were 40 to 50 other anglers along the west bank of Lake George, Randy Howell didn't think about throwing a marker buoy out. He would only have been marking a spot for somebody else.   But Howell has a buoy in the water this morning. That's the advantage of having 15 to 20 acres to yourself, like he does today.   "I can't see much yet," said Howell, who continues to troll relatively quickly through this area, scouting mainly, until the sun comes out. The sky is overcast.

Lane boats a small one

Mar 22, 2014

Following Lane through all these idle and manatee zones has been a long, slow process. The speed limit makes me feel like I'm in an OJ Simpson chase from years ago.   It comes complete with lots of law enforcement. We've seen about a half dozen water patrol boats already.   Lane finally shuts down on a point and boats a small keeper.

Mark Davis with 7 pounds, so far

Mar 22, 2014

Mark Davis has about 7 pounds with three fish. He and Scott Rook are working the same area near Nine Mile Point. I can see 12 boats in this area. Paul Elias is north working up very shallow. We also have a few local anglers working this side of the lake. Mark Davis is working very slowly.  Scott Rook just landed another fish. It looks to be about 2 pounds.
