Aaron Martens just caught a 2-pound, 9-ounce bass. That's his estimate. A lot of anglers might say "2 1/2 pounds," but Martens is more specific. He caught this one on a drop shot. He's now back to fishing the same spot. We believe this adds a pound to his total.
Justin Lucas just helped his cause. Only by a few ounces, but it's a step in the right direction. He caught that fish after catching several small ones. Behind the docks of King and Paradise Marinas. The last one was on a bed and he spent about five minutes on it before it bit. He's still looking for the big one to seal the deal. Yesterday he caught an 8-pounder doing the same thing.
Aaron Martens is back fishing after replacing his trolling motor. That little episode just cost him 15 or 20 minutes. But it did seem to slow down his momentum. He's in White Slough now, fishing with a spinning reel and a drop shot. James Overstreet is in the boat with him getting close-up photos. Look for those shots in a photo gallery later today on Bassmaster.com.
Justin Lucas' friends are actually much more. There's two brothers in the boat, Joe and Kevin. Plus Justin's wife, Brianna. And two friends Damon and Andy pretty much fill up a boat.
Chris Zaldain loses a big fish right as he is about to boat it.
We've been back on Lucas for most of the hour. He's making a run behind Paradise Marina throwing a topwater and occasionally stopping on an empty bed. He knows he has to upgrade soon. But he's been joined by a bunch of spectators, evidently they knew he would eventually be here. They include a boat with his brother and four friends. It's nice, I would imagine, to be around familiar faces.

From 10:15 to 11:15 this morning, some big fish were caught from the Delta. This morning was full of 2- to 3-pound fish, but only one over 5 pounds, which was Aaron Martens' 7-6 beast. But in that hour time period, Cliff Pirch caught a 7-pounder and a 5 1/2. Meanwhile Tim Horton caught a 7-pounder as well. That hour was the first good window of opportunity on Championship Sunday. It will be interesting when the next window of opportunity is.
