Aug 3, 2013

Powell set the hook again. This time Lee hit the trolling motor on high and together Auburn pulled the fish away from the brush. A few seconds later, Lee netted No. 4. A solid 2-1/4.

Frink and Nummy switch baits

Aug 3, 2013

Frink and Nummy have temporarily shelved the rat in favor of smaller swimbaits and drop shot rig to fill out their limit with spotted bass. However, Frink is still intent on using his rat swimbait to hit main lake banks that are subject to wave action from pleasure boats. They're still sitting on their one 6-pounder.

What a day

Aug 3, 2013

Lee and Powell running in rotten luck. Lee had a nice fish bury up and break him off in brush on a drop shot about 20 minutes ago. Powell just lost a fish that had him doubled over. Can't miss in a day like today.

AUM with the biggest fish

Aug 3, 2013

After a mediocre morning bite, a slow grind had set in on the Top 5. AUM with the biggest fish of the day this morning at about 6 pounds, but Young Harris with the most action connecting with a 10 pound limit already. Painfully slow for the rest of the field, but each bite is huge at this stage of the game, even the little ones. Of course everyone wants to win the National Championship today but more than anything no one wants to finish 5th.

Update

Aug 3, 2013

Update: Lee/Powell 3 for 4.5lbs.

Georgia Southern throws big swimbaits

Aug 3, 2013

We've got a report from the Georgia Southern team (not fishing) that Young Harris has four fish for about 11 pounds. Their plan was to throw big swimbaits today, but they have already resorted to drop shot rigs. Maybe if they get one more they'll start heaving big swimmers.

Quick bite for Lee and Powell

Aug 3, 2013

Keeper number three for Lee and Powell, another small one. After pounding 10 piles without a bite, this one bit on the first drop. "See how fast it happens." Lee commenting on the quick bite. When they're there and they want to eat you can't keep them from getting it and getting it quick. Running and gunning for AU. Back on the move.

Rutherford goes swimming

Aug 3, 2013

Just got word from a spectator that Rutherford went swimming this morning. Apparently he was netting Peeler's fish when his rod was snatched into the lake. Rutherford decided to go in after it and got his rod back minus the fish. That would have been something to see.

Targeting spots

Aug 3, 2013

"I think we just need three bites," Frink said about his rat swimbait. At this rate, three bites would get them more than 15 pounds, more than most 5-fish spotted bass limits. He's probably right, as most other teams are targeting spots.
