The Top 12 collegiate teams fish off for the coveted Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship title.
Frink and Nummy just picked up two swimmers they added to the well. They've got three for about 8 pounds now.
Frink and Nummy are approaching scramble time. We made a quick jaunt upstream where the pair broke out drop shot rigs and quickly boated two shorts. They're now fishing a marina further up the lake. They need four more fish for their best shot at winning.
It's been a slow day for Frink and Nummy. They've got just the one bite from the big fish that they put in the well. We're going to make a run up the river to see if they can't fill out a limit.
The weather is finally right for a big bite according to Young Harris. "Best conditions we've had all week," squealed Rutherford. A light wind and a little cloud cover has him excited.
Peeler and Rutherford with around 11 pounds. Doing most of their work with a drop shot and a fish head spin this morning but hoping to upgrade on a Triple Trout, a large jointed swimbait. Big bait fishing is something Brad prides himself on and loves fishing that way on this lake. Though practice was tough for the big bait bite he's not surprised at all that Frink ad Nummy of AUM are leading throwing the rat.
Powell set the hook again. This time Lee hit the trolling motor on high and together Auburn pulled the fish away from the brush. A few seconds later, Lee netted No. 4. A solid 2-1/4.
Frink and Nummy have temporarily shelved the rat in favor of smaller swimbaits and drop shot rig to fill out their limit with spotted bass. However, Frink is still intent on using his rat swimbait to hit main lake banks that are subject to wave action from pleasure boats. They're still sitting on their one 6-pounder.
Lee and Powell running in rotten luck. Lee had a nice fish bury up and break him off in brush on a drop shot about 20 minutes ago. Powell just lost a fish that had him doubled over. Can't miss in a day like today.
After a mediocre morning bite, a slow grind had set in on the Top 5. AUM with the biggest fish of the day this morning at about 6 pounds, but Young Harris with the most action connecting with a 10 pound limit already. Painfully slow for the rest of the field, but each bite is huge at this stage of the game, even the little ones. Of course everyone wants to win the National Championship today but more than anything no one wants to finish 5th.
