Nick Welu and Garison Miles from UW- Stevens Point with our first monster of the day.
I just witnessed one of the most bizarre things I've seen in a while.
Three bass over slot limit lift Kansas State team above 2-pound hit.
First sign of rain. It just sprinkled a bit. Bright sunny skies to the north but ominous clouds to the south and a stiff breeze bringing them our way.
Kansas State is doing something a little different. We're seeing them pitch soft plastics a fair amount, similar to the majority of the field, but they're also mixing in some moving baits.
See how the collegiate anglers did on the first day on Lake Seguma!
College anglers try to figure out Seguma after flooding forces them off the Mississippi.
Lots of fish being caught but most are not the right size. Several teams have caught limits of slot fish that would go 12 to 14 pounds but unfortunately only have a couple of fish between 10 to 12 inches to show for their efforts. We've seen a few overs caught. Those would be game changers in a normal tournament but out here they are likely game enders for the rest of the field. One over outweighs a limit of unders by a pound or two. But given the conditions and the crowd, hoping to catch 5 overs is a bit ambitious.
