Laj Tripp and Kyle Sittman of Eastern Washington University take the Day 1 lead on Folsom Lake.
Twenty teams from the West set out on California's Folsom Reservoir today for Day 1 of the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Western Regional.
Wyatt Whitten has one keeper, which is good considering the way his last 12 hours have gone. His partner, Chase Cochran, did the pre-fishing for the team and attended the briefing. Wyatt got in last night -- and then had to take his partner to the ER for dehydration. So this morning, Whitten launched solo, waiting for his friend to recover. Cochran is taking it easy today and wishing the best for his partner, who's unexpectedly going it alone.
Alex Robbins and Rudy Directo of Humboldt State were the first ones out this morning, but yet they sit fishless. It's not for lack of trying. There have been a few missed fish but lots of short ones. They're going to keep plugging away.
Katie Tanner and Daniel Marshal have three in the boat, but none of them are that big. "One of them is a baby," said Tanner. "It barely measured."
Eric Lee and Dalton Taylor of University of Oregon don't have anything to show yet. But they're seeing lots of activity and getting lots of bites, so they're hopeful. They're thinking about making a move soon.
