Governors Stand for Sportsmen and Outdoorsmen

On July 17 in Biloxi, Miss., anglers and hunters everywhere got a much needed political boost.

On July 17 in Biloxi, Miss., anglers and hunters everywhere got a much needed political boost. Sixteen governors from across the country became inaugural members of an organization dedicated to the interests of outdoorsmen and the sustainability of our natural resources with the official launch of the Governors Sportsmen's Caucus.

Make no mistake about it, management of our natural resources, as well as our ability to use those resources, is often political. That's why the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation has been such a valuable ally to BASS, the sportfishing industry and anglers everywhere. Active on the Hill for more than 20 years, the CSF recently expanded their efforts to the state capitols with the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC).

NASC created an avenue within state legislatures where issues important to sportsmen and women could be championed and addressed by elected state officials. In its few short years of existence, NASC has been a valuable resource for BASS and the BASS Federation Nations on a number of different fronts.

The Governors Sportsmen's Caucus is the latest effort to ensure that the needs of our fish and wildlife, as well as those that enjoy the outdoors, are addressed within the administration of state governments. To those governors that have joined the caucus, value our natural resources and seek to preserve our national heritage of hunting and fishing, anglers everywhere thank you!
