Madeline Smith

Madeline Smith's memory was honored recently at Lake Balboa in Hot Springs, Ark.

During the past 10 years, Madeline became one of women's tournament fishing's staunchest supporters, fishing with the WBT from the beginning. She ran two Web sites dedicated to women and bass fishing (LadyBassAngler.com and bassgifts.com).

Madeline grew up in California fishing the delta, but bass fishing didn't enter her world until she retired after two successful careers as both a nurse and a florist.

Her go-to style was finesse fishing with a 4-inch plastic worm rigged on a jighead, and she used it successfully on any type of water.

Smith died June 22, 2008, from cancer. The Hot Springs Village Anglers Club, the Smith family and Hot Springs Village POA helped with the construction of a new fishing pier on Lake Balboa to preserve her memory. WBT anglers raised money which was used to dedicate a bench on the fishing pier with her name on it.

Her husband, Jim, along with the entire fishing community, wishes her memory and love of fishing smiles upon all anglers, young and old.
