St. Johns: Fishing blind

Stephen Browning’s Thursday catch of a 6-pound, 7-ounce bedding bass brought a whole new meaning to the term “sight fishing.”

PALATKA, Fla. — Stephen Browning’s Thursday catch of a 6-pound, 7-ounce bedding bass brought a whole new meaning to the term “sight fishing.”

“I fished for her about 30 minutes and couldn’t get her. Then I changed my boat angle just a little bit. The first cast after that, I had her,” he said.

Coincidence? No. The bass was in about 2 feet of water, and Browning noticed something about the fish.

“I could see she was blind on her right side. After I got over on her bad side, she bit,” he said.

The Hot Springs, Ark., pro was in 12th place after one day with 18-5.
