North Carolina youth learn fish care at Open

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Members of the Archdale Bass Club and Randleman Outdoor Youth helped work fish care for the 2012 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Southern Open on Lake Norman.

"The primary focus here was to put youth in the leadership roles working with Chris Bowes," said Bill Frazier of the North Carolina B.A.S.S. Nation.

"They didn't just move fish," continued Frazier. "They learned about the process of keeping them alive in a big tournament situation step-by-step. They also did fundraising by selling hot dogs at Bass Pro Shops with the help of store manager Eric Winter and actually got to drive the pros' rigs to the weigh-in stand on the final tournament day."

Seven volunteers contributed 68 man-hours to the project and raised $1,200.
