Maine hosts benefit tournament, Aug. 16

The third annual Battle of the Boats will take place Sunday, Aug. 16, on the Androscoggin River in Maine.

ANDROSCOGGIN COUNTY, Maine — The third annual Battle of the Boats will take place Sunday, Aug. 16, on the Androscoggin River in Maine.

Hosted by the Androscoggin Bassmasters and the Community Credit Union, the benefit tournament serves as a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) and the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

It will be held in conjunction with the 22nd Annual Gulf Island Pond Bass Fishing Open.

The Maine B.A.S.S. Nation club handles the permitting and registration for the tournament, and the credit union is responsible for the marketing, advertising and concessions.

A $10 donation from each registration will go directly to the CMN and the children’s hospital, and it is expected to bring the Androscoggin Bassmasters’ total contributions over the years to almost $7,500.

Additional proceeds from the tournament and from the concession sales will benefit Maine Credit Union’s Campaign to End Hunger. Since 1990, Maine’s credit unions have raised and distributed more than $5.3 million to help end hunger in the state, including a record $552,257 in 2014 alone. Last year, the Battle of the Boats donated $1,685 to the cause.
