SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Sean Cook and Tommy Zobel of Joliet Central High School won the Illinois B.A.S.S. Nation High School season opener on Lake Springfield, March 28.

The pair caught 8.85 pounds in the one-day event, including a 3.85-pounder. Behind them were Blake Fuller and Christian Allmon of Moline High School with 8.3 pounds and Sam Milazzo and Nick Martens of Maine South High School with 7.95 pounds.

“The weather did not cooperate very well, and the temps were in the upper 20s at takeoff,” said Frank Labanowski, Illinois B.A.S.S. Nation tournament director. “By the time the anglers were returning to the ramp, it was still cold and nasty.”

Six teams qualified to compete in the Illinois B.A.S.S. Nation State Championship, June 14, also on Lake Springfield.

The next event will be April 25 at Clinton Lake.
