Florida club takes wounded warriors fishing

CRESTVIEW, Fla. — Members of the Hub City Bassmasters, in association with Wounded Warrior Fishing, took 10 injured military veterans and their families fishing for a day.

The volunteers taught them how to catch bass, redfish, speckled trout and flounder during the two-day event. The weekend was totally free for the participants; volunteers raised $2,500 to support the tournament. Sponsors, such as Bass Pro Shops and Mann's Bait Co., provided meals and door prizes, including rods, reels, tackle bags and other gear.

"One of our club members gave an hour-long presentation on how to fish for the different species," explained club member Ron Whitman. "Also, each member of the club helped and educated each angler while on their individual fishing adventure."

The 18 volunteers contributed 45 man-hours to the event, and they also collected 1 pound of recyclable material.
