The New England Outdoor Writers Association (NEOWA) recently chose Don Barone of Farmington, Conn., as the recipient of the 2015 Dick Cronin Member Sportsman of the Year Award. Barone will be honored on April 18 at the group’s annual meeting and scholarship awards luncheon at the Singletary Rod & Gun Club in Oxford, Mass.

The award is given annually to a NEOWA member who has done outstanding work during the past year in accordance with the aims, ethics and principles of the association. Barone is being recognized for his work with Tackle the Storm Foundation. He is the founder and board chairman of the organization, which donates fishing rods to children in areas hit by tornadoes.

NEOWA is a nonprofit, professional and educational organization, established in 1942 by dedicated writers concerned about natural resources, conservation and our outdoor heritage. It is the oldest regional outdoor writers organization in America.
