Tell us the story of your Lunker Club catch: I was spending the New Year with my girlfriend, Rebecca, fishing on Falcon Lake in Texas. We started out fishing on some deep ledges. After trying deep water for a while, only catching a few fish but not big ones, we moved to a creek with a deep ledge only 30 feet away.

I started flipping trees in 4 to 6 feet of water and big laydowns with a flipping tube. I saw a big laydown and thought to myself that if I hooked one in there I would not be able to get her out of there. The line twitched and the fight was on! I pulled her over two big limbs about one foot over the water, then she came to the boat and I lipped her. I said to Rebecca, "Now, if we were fishing a tournament there would be no way I would have got her to the boat."

Then I noticed all the black spots on that big bucket mouth. Then I said, "That's the way to start off the new year!"

What do you like most about being a BASS member?: Different tips and lure choices.

Any successful tips/technique/lure you can share with us?: To all shallow water fishermen and fisherwomen: Try going to deeper water off points and ledges around 20 feet to 35 feet. Fish it the same as 5 to 10 feet of water. Try new lures like 1- to 1 1/4-ounce jigs or 10-inch worms.

Pay attention to your electronics. I have caught more big bass in deep water since I decided to learn to fish deep and using jigs, big worms and crankbaits.
