2015 High School All-American: Julius Mazy

Julius Mazy finishes in the Top 2 in most of the tournaments he fishes.

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Julius Mazy finishes in the Top 2 in most of the tournaments he fishes.

Mazy is fresh off a win in the 2015 B.A.S.S. Nation High School Western Divisional on California's Clear Lake. Before that, he posted a runner-up finish in back-to-back high school events in Arizona and a pair of wins on Arizona's Saguaro Lake and Lake Pleasant.

Mazy won the Phoenix Junior Bassmaster Angler of the Year award for the 2013-2014 season, and in 2014, he was the state's High School Angler of the Year and took second in the Arizona Student Angler Federation State Championship.

"Julius spends his time planning and preparing for the next time he is on the water," said Lauren Sheahan, the principal at Boulder Creek High School, where Mazy is a sophomore.

"He uses his analytical skills to develop a strategy in each outing for the best results. These are higher level thinking skills that he puts into action in each tournament."

Mazy also works to help other kids have a good time on the water. He has organized local fun days where he and his high school teammates take kids fishing in local ponds at Anthem Park. He participates in Cast For Kids, Cabela's Outdoor Days and club fundraisers. Mazy also competes in the Dick Laporte Memorial Tournament and the Protect the Harvest Tournament.

Mazy is a member of the Phoenix High School Bassmasters, and he will compete on the 2015 Bassmaster High School All-American Team with 11 other high school anglers on June 6 during Zippo BASSfest presented by A.R.E. Truck Caps.

The 12 anglers were selected from among the best high school competitors in the country based on their tournament performance, leadership and community service.
