Gear Review: VMC Gliding Jig

What is it?

VMC Gliding Jig

What does it do?

A unique jig that glides and wobbles as it sinks, and generates an attractive action that bass can’t say ‘no’ to.

What sets it apart?

The Gliding Jig is best suited for shallow water as it slowly falls while creating a fast side-to-side flashing action. It’s an ideal presentation for fish that are in a negative mood and need an extra nudge when it comes to eating a bait. The lure can be rigged with a myriad of soft plastics, or fished without.

How do I use it?

By threading a small worm or fluke onto the extra wide-gap hook, the presentation will fall a slower rate allowing for plenty of flash and vibration to reach nearby fish. A spinning outfit sporting 12-pound fluoro is the best rod-and-reel combo to throw this rig. It can be worked in a vertical up-and-down action, or slowly swim it back to the boat. The Gliding Jig is available in two sizes: 1/8 and 3/16 ounces

How much?

Editor insight:

I’ve found this to be a killer presentation around docks, especially docks that are in the 10- to 12-foot range. I like a short 4-inch fat worm as the trailer, but a craw or chunk would also work well. This is a presentation a lot of fish won’t see very often—if ever—so keeping a stash on-hand is a good idea.
