Gear Review: Missile Baits Craw Father

What is it?

Missile Baits Craw Father

What sets it apart?

It’s difficult to find a soft plastic bait that does it all, but this new creation from Elite Series pro John Crews looks pretty versatile. The 3 1/2-inch craw bait has sufficient mass for holding a stout flipping hook, but it’s not so bulky that you’d shy away from finesse tactics.

Three sets of tiny legs emit subtle wiggling motion, while the narrow claws deliver enticing action on the fall and in swimming presentations — even at slow speeds.

How do I use it?

Seasoned flippers will want to Texas rig this bait and send it through flooded bushes, laydowns and stalky vegetation from tules to bulrush, but saddled with an ounce or more of tungsten escort, the Craw Father should make an effective punch bait. Other uses include trailers for flipping jigs and bladed swim jigs, Carolina rigs.

Colors include Bruiser Flash, Candy Grass, Desert Storm, Green Pumpkin, Green Pumpkin Flash, Lovebug, Super Bug, Watermelon Red.

Angler’s insight:

I’m liking this bait for any of those moving presentations like swim jigs or wobble heads where those active pinchers can really shine. The Craw Father should also look good on a jig stroking presentation and even a finesse C-rig when cooler water or heavy fishing pressure has the bite kinda not happening.

With a relatively streamlined form and thin arms, this craw’s gonna fall fast, so I’d expect it to do a good job triggering reaction bites.
