Gear Review: Hobie i11

What is it?

Hobie i11 Inflatable Kayak

What does it do?

The i11 is the lightest model in the entire Hobie fleet, and it features an ultra-low profile combined with the companies renowned stability. Two air chambers on each side, and the drop-stitched center chamber provides the stability needed for fishing use.

What sets it apart?

For increased tracking and stability, a fin is included that can be inserted into the built-in slot on the bottom of the hull. A newly engineered fingertip rudder control can be quickly switched to both sides for use with either hand. The i11 comes standard with the company’s patented MirageDrive, and their Vantage Seating System for extended comfort.

How do I use it?

The heavy-duty and durable 1000 denier PVC hull and underside matched with convenient carrying handles makes portaging, carrying and launching very easy. If upper body exercise is your goal, you can replace the MirageDrive with the included plug and use a paddle. There are four kayaks in the series, i9/$1,999; i11/$1,999; i12/$2,149; i14/$3,199. Sail kits are available for the i9, i12 and i14.

How much?

$1,999

Editor insight:

If you’re looking for the crossover between the recently popular paddleboards and fishing kayaks, the i11 is the best of both worlds, and it’s ultra lightweight and very stable, which you’d expect from a Hobie. There are also plenty of bungee tie-downs for your fishing gear making it easy to grab what you need.
