Gear Review: Hoax Fish Scam Shad

What is it?

Hoax Fish Scam Shad

What does it do?

It’s a fluke-style bait that can be rigged for numerous presentations.

What sets it apart?

The completely unique design generates a swimming action that bass find hard to resist. When rigged weightless, it can be fished like a fluke, and it turns 90 degrees at the end of each rod-tip twitch. The hook channel keeps the hook weedless, but it doesn’t have to penetrate the bait body to become embedded in the fish’s mouth. The four small tails flutter erratically as it swims offering bass a little extra motivation to eat.

How do I use it?

The Scam Shad can be rigged and fished like a standard fluke, but it can also work as a spinnerbait, buzzbait and Chatterbait trailer. It can also be Texas- or Carolina-rigged for a slow falling presentation.

How much?

$4.99

Editor insight:

Honestly, it’s hard to come up with something new in the soft-plastic world. But, I was very impressed and interested in the line of baits available at Hoax Fish. There are a couple of very unique designs that will catch fish, yet have broken away from the standard line of soft plastics. With the Scam Shad, I even went as far as cutting the hook flanges off and rigging it sideways on a Chatterbait making the presentation appear taller. It’s a very unique bait for sure.
