We fished a tournament out in Oklahoma. It was a hybrid type of thing where we fished two days and then played poker one day. It's the first event of its kind I've ever participated in.
It's Strike King time!
This weekend I'll be at the Strike King media event in Tennessee. We — pro staff, writers and company officials — all get together for a few days for interviews, photos, film and whatever else comes to mind. We hold it at Blue Bank Resort on Reelfoot Lake. The facilities are great and the hospitality and food are even better than that.
Float your boat
Everyone in the fishing industry is concerned about the boat market. It's true, fishing boat sales are down nearly 50 percent during this recession. That's not good news. Concern is not panic, however. The trend is upward. Sales in the second half of this year are on a pace to exceed those in the first half. Things are getting better.
Does X 2
The last week or so has been really busy. I've been making appearances for Bass Pro Shops in various places around the country. While all that was going on I was at the Tracker and Nitro convention getting ready for next year's activities.
Going for it
I've said over and over again in my blog postings that it's all about the attitude. This week is an example of what I'm talking about with that statement, and what the right attitude can do for you. Without it I wouldn't be the 2009 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year.
A crystal ball
Rereading last week's blog is like looking in a crystal ball backwards. I said it — one bad day equals a bad tournament. And once you get behind there'd be little or no chance to catch up. That's pretty much the way it happened for me in the Berkley PowerBait Trophy Chase.
The challenge
I'm packed and headed towards Alabama to fish Lake Jordan. It's the site of the first event in the Toyota Trucks Championship Week. Twelve of us will battle head-to-head for the 2009 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year title. With two days of practice and only two days of competition it'll be a different experience, that's for sure.
Our last summer hurrah
Sorry I haven't written for a couple of weeks. I've been on a family vacation since the last regular season event on Oneida. We wanted to do something as a family before the kids go back to school next Tuesday, the day after Labor Day. It's tough to do much as a family when the kids are in school.

In case you haven't heard, Melissa's team, Michigan District 2, won the Big League Softball World Series.
Busy, Busy, Busy
My niece, Melissa Gould, is competing in the World Series of Softball here in Kalamazoo. She graduated from high school this year and will be heading to the University of Michigan in the fall. Melissa plays second base, but her real specialty is running the bases and batting.
