Davis breaks off a mystery fish

The bass fishing seems to have slowed for everyone as it gets closer to noon today.

Royce Davis was forced to tie on a new bait after breaking his line on a "mystery fish" about 11:30. He didn't get it close enough to see how big it was, and he knew it wasn't a lunker, but every keeper is important on DeGray Lake this week.

Davis had it on long enough to know it wasn't one of the hybrid stripers that are numerous in this lake.

The bass fishing seems to have slowed for everyone as it gets closer to noon today. Yesterday the bite picked up in the afternoon. Several teams reported landing key fish in the final hour, including Davis and his team champion partner Flannagan Fife, who landed their fifth keeper at 2:32 p.m. with a 3 o'clock check-in time.

Check-in time today will be 3:30 p.m.

Flannagan, by the way, is struggling so far today and doesn't have a keeper yet.
