It's Day 2 at ICAST 2013 in Las Vegas and one thing is for certain: I'm not going to get enough sleep while I'm here. But it's worth it!
This morning I got a pick-me-up when I stopped by the Dimiki Fishing Tackle booth to watch Bassmaster Elite Series pro Chad Pipkens demonstrate Dimiki's new Air Frog. The 4-inch frog has two air chambers that help it self-regulate — as Pipkens showed me when he dropped the bait in the tank upside down, only to watch it quickly right itself. Pipkens, who is very friendly and knowledgeable, also showed off Damiki's new Gizzard Shad, Ghost Shad and Water Crawler. Great new soft plastics from a great angler and brand.
Jason Christie, a Bassmaster Elite Series pro from Oklahoma and arguably the hottest angler in the country, continues to receive accolades. Lew's Tackle President Gary Remensnyder presented Christie with a new award for "angler accomplishments." One would think the award was created with Christie in mind. In the past 12 months, he's won five major tournaments, including the Ramada Quest Elite Series tournament on Bull Shoals, Ark., two Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens, and two FLW tour events. Christie received the award at a press briefing during the ICAST show in Las Vegas Wednesday. Afterward, the Elite Series rookie also got some advice from Team Lew's pro Peter Thliveros. "Peter T" told Christie he should immediately begin building an oversize trophy room onto his home.
