Texas High School tournament report

10:46 am EST, Dec 5, 2013 |
By

It has been once said “you can’t judge a book by its cover”. This could have been said of the conditions and results of the second in a five tournament series for the THSBA. Cloudy, cool conditions with light winds and high water usually mean big tournament weights, especially in the fall. This is what met the BASS Nation high school anglers at Lake Palestine. Only seven five fish limits were weighed and many one and two fish sacks were the common place. At the end, however, the team of Nash Verges and Eric Hanna of Allen High School walked away with first place with a 5 fish limit weighing 15.53. Second place went to Jared Penton and Curtis Daughtery of Sanger High with 12.35. Anchoring their weight was the 5.45 Big Bass of the tournament. Issac Ridgle and Zay Ridgle of the FUAS Athens team placed third with 12.24. The current leaders in the Angler of the Year race, Zach Starling and Colton Kirk once again showed their consistency figuring out a tough bite by placing 4th with 10.70 and helped Quinlan Ford High School to its first Overall High School Team win and keeping Quinlan on top of the Team of the Year race tied with Kaufman High School. Crandall High’s Cody Benson and Collin Head weighed in 10.07 to finish out the top five. We again want to thank our sponsors of the fastest growing high school tournament trails in the U.S., Fun n Sun Sport Sales, Bass Pro Shops, and Cowboy Toyota of Dallas and of course B.A.S.S.
