We just saw the Skeeter on the right in the picture boat their first fish of the morning. The only fish we've seen so far. And it was under the slot (between 10 and 12 inches). The Triton to the left semi-jokingly said, "That'll be the winning fish."
Looks like the confidence level is a little low out here on Sugema right now. With a 2-foot rise to the lake, post and pre front conditions and a pesky 12-18 inch slot, Sugema is presenting some challenges early.
Following the Mighty Mississippi's lead, Sugema Lake is now climbing. This doesn't present near the problems the flooded river did, but it is ironic. When Hank Weldon and Don Corkran made their site visit yesterday morning, the dock pictured below was high and dry. Now it's more than a foot underwater. Sunny skies for now but more rain on the way.
Due to major flooding on the Mississippi River here in Fort Madison, Iowa, we have been forced to move the Carhartt College Series Midwest Regional to a nearby lake. The new body of water is Lake Sugema.
We will still have the weigh-ins in Fort Madison. This lake is 35 miles outside of the city.
Competition starts tomorrow! Launches will now be at 6:30 a.m. CT and weigh-ins at 3:45 p.m. CT.
