Crushing dreams

10:09 am EST, Jan 3, 2014

Slow! That's the story on the water today. Slow grind. Temps in the 40s. The most we've heard of after talking to 15 boats is 4 dinks. Okeechobee is crushing dreams this morning.

On chilly Okeechobee

9:17 am EST, Jan 3, 2014

We're on the water now in the area where most of the Top 12 finishers fished during the Bassmaster Classic Wild Card last month. I count 31 boats in sight but nobody's catching much at the moment. There are still fish in the area apparently but this cold front has hit the area hard as it has the whole lake. A 30-degree drop in air temps and 25 MPH winds are not ideal on Okeechobee. We'll see if things warm up fast enough for the bite to pick up this afternoon.

And they're off...

Lee catches one on a frog

As soon as I got on his boat, he caught another one on a frog, and he was able to cull another one. He estimates his weight around 11 pounds.

Shane may be on a roll now, with the sun coming up his bite is turning on. He just caught No. 3 and a short fish within three casts. This may be the place where it all goes down.
