Clemson's Alan Horwatt and William Shipes are chasing schooling spots as well, working a topwater and a drop shot. They've currently got one little swimmer in their wrapped boat.
UNA's Zachary Wiggers and Andrew Nutt are nearby and have four fish four roughly 8 pounds. Like many teams, they're chasing spotted bass that are schooling on blueback herring, throwing spoons and top waters. The overcast skies should keep the Topwater bite alive for a while longer.
My boat driver Chandler Ray, a senior at Georgia Southwestern, settler down on Georgia Southern's Trent Palmer am Tanner Parker, who are fishing top waters and jigging spoons in 40 feet of water. They've got two small spots in the well at the moment for roughly three pounds. The rain that was forecasted never showed. The name of this game is hitting As many spots as possible, as bias are constantly buzzing around us. Lots of anglers are sharing water, so getting the proper bait and presentation dialed in will be critical to catching fish behind other teams.
Young Harris with an early limit for 10-to-11 lbs. the first limit we've seen this morning out of the handful that I've stopped on. With a 14 inch limit, 10-11 lbs means no big ones yet for Young Harris. But an early limit definitely takes a little pressure off. Each 3-pound-plus fish that they can put in the boat will be a huge step.
So far we've seen Young Harris, UNCC, the Auburn team of Lee and Seals, MSU's Atkins and Gann and Georgia Southern all fishing within sight of one another and rotating through some of the same water. This lake is plenty big enough for the field, but it looks like certain areas are fishing better. And those areas are collecting a lot of boats. UNCC with one keeper and Young Harris with 3. Those are the only two teams I have a definite update on so far.
