“The Switch” will be the key

As we've noted previously in the blog today, primetime for 5-plus-pounders was between noon and 2 p.m. yesterday. Generally, low tide occurred at 11 a.m. Eight 5-plus-pounders were caught between 1:00 and 2:00; six 5-plus-pounders were caught between noon and 1:00. No other hour had more than five.

Low tide will be an hour later today, so 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. might be primetime. That's going to put some anglers in a serious time bind. Check-in time for the first flight is 3:20 p.m. The fourth and final flight check-in time is 4:20 p.m.

Justin Lucas said there is only about 15 minutes of still water between the tide changes, and it's commonly called "the switch."

"You can be fishing a spot and be getting pushed forward (by the tide)," Lucas said, "and then 15 minutes later you're getting pulled out."

Around noon today, at the bottom of low tide, it will be just the opposite – anglers who have been getting pulled out by the falling tide all morning will notice rising water and their boats getting pushed forward. That's when the big bass began biting yesterday.
