Martens taking it easy today

If you stuck around after today's 6:20 a.m. takeoff, you might have been able to see AOY leader Aaron Martens catch his first bass. He has a 2-pounder in the boat and is fishing near Lake St. Clair Metropark.

Martens could clinch his third Toyota Angler of the Year title today. He came into this event with a 69-point lead over second-place Justin Lucas. Based on "theoretical" points from the Day 2 standings, Martens now has a 93-point lead over Lucas, 96 points over third-place Dean Rojas and 121 points over fourth-place Jacob Powroznik.

Interestingly, Martens' main competitors are lined up in 39th (Rojas), 40th (Lucas) and 41st place (Powroznik) after yesterday's weigh-in. One of those anglers will have to rise miraculously and Martens fall precipitously for this AOY race to extend any further. With only 50 anglers advancing to the AOY Championship next month, if Martens has more than a 50-point lead after today, he will clinch the title.
