Havasu Elite: Day 1 update

It didn't take long for the wind to start blowing around here.

A cool desert wind was the first thing that met us when we left the hotel. Every palm branch is swaying and you half expect to see a tumbleweed coming bouncing by. And according to some weather reports it's not even blowing yet.

Some forecasts call for gusts in the 40s today with sustained winds in the 20- to 30-mile range. Any where else and we would be thinking about what we would be doing all day. But according to some of the locals it shouldn't be that bad on the water.

They say this lake lays Southeast to Northwest and mountain ridges to the south protect most of the lake, keeping it from building up any waves of consequence. I hope they are right.

We are at the launch and despite the wind it appears fairly calm. That's the first good sign of the day.
