Lester has ’em fired up

Brandon Lester has been exceptionally consistent over three days. He weighed 22-14 on Day 1 and 22-5 on Day 2, which put him in 7th place going into today, when it appears he's got another 22-pounds-plus. Lester was confident yesterday that the fish he's found, which aren't getting pressure from any other angler, would still be there today. Seems he was correct. BASSTrakk has him with 23-0.

Lester just went on one of those Kentucky Lake flurries that can produce a big limit in 30 minutes. That's been the story all week.

"I caught two 3-pounders on one cast," Lester said yesterday. "They get so fired up, and one fish tries to take the bait away from another one."

Obviously, those two came on a crankbait. But Lester is also using a Carolina rig, which helps him locate mussel shell beds. "This lake has got more shell beds than any place I've been to," he said. "It's very important on this lake. This is the second tournament I've fished here, and both times shell beds were critical. With a Carolina rig, you can find them real quick."
