KVD prefers Sundays

Kevin VanDam doesn't much care for Saturdays during a Bassmaster Elite Series tournament at Kentucky Lake. That goes a long way in explaining his worst day of the tournament, a 19-12 bag Saturday after weighing 23-9 and 24-5 the first two days of BASSfest.

"Sundays are a much better day," he said Saturday. "The worst day for me in every Bassmaster event that I've ever fished here is Saturday because of the pressure. There's a lot of other tournaments out there and a lot of guys fishing.Sunday there is a lot less boat traffic on the water. And we only have 12 guys out there. That opens stuff up too."

In light of those comments, it should come as no surprise that VanDam already has 21 pounds-plus today.

No matter what day of the week, VanDam always has a lot of boat traffic around him. As a recent Bassmaster Classic champion once told me, "If the rest of us had to fish under the same conditions that Kevin does, he'd win every one of them."

It's something to consider, especially for those who think VanDam has faded in his desire or ability in recent years.
