It’s all about that big bass

Why is Edwin Evers leading this tournament after three days? It's real simple: He's had the big bass on two of those three days. The 8-pounder he caught on Day 2 is big bass of the tournament so far. The 6-12 that took big bass honors yesterday is the perfect example of what angler after angler keeps mentioning – the importance of a "big bite."

It's that way in every tournament, of course. But the definition of "big bite" changes from lake to lake. Anything 5 pounds and up is a big bite here this week.

And current or no current, the average size of the bass weighed-in has remained consistent, although it did go up – not down – slightly yesterday. Again, this is the average of each bass brought to the weigh-in scales, not the average size of the bass caught during the tournament. It was 3.32 lbs., on Day 1; 3.33 lbs., on Day 2; and 3.38 lbs., on Day 3.
