Horton relying on big plugs

Timmy Horton was one of the rare contenders who didn't mind revealing his lure of choice after Day 2 at Kentucky Lake. It's a deep-diving crankbait that he and FLW pro Randy Haynes designed — an Azuma Z-Boss 20. It's no secret that deep-diving plugs are a key bait here. Horton claims this one can catch bass that have been pressured with other similar lures.

"It just rolls, it doesn't X," Horton explained. "It has a softer action than most plugs. You can go behind people and catch fish. I think that's the big key. It doesn't have the thump other plugs do when you're reeling it."

Horton noted that one of the bass in his 27-1 bag Thursday came on a Z-Boss 25, saying, "I've got one place that's a little deeper."
