It didn't take Jacob Powroznik long today to find out what he needed to know about Lake Hartwell. Powroznik put his Ranger boat back on the trailer at 9:30. He was the first angler back at the service yard, shortly after 11:00.
"My confidence is high," he said. "I went to three places I found when I was here in November and December. I hadn't fished them since. I got 9 bites this morning in pretty short order."
And that was all Powroznik needed to be confident going into Friday's opening day of the Classic.
"I didn't want to stay out there and do something to get my brain scrambled," he said. "I know what I'm going to do. I'm not going to change. Plus (the wind) was already getting pretty bad out there when I came in."
