We've moved down the lake a bit to Bear Lake Channel where Kevin VanDam has his usual 15-boat entourage. Observers said KVD caught one fish in a ditch that runs along the bank near the channel. He fished into the channel a bit and is now working his way around the point.
VanDam has been throwing a jerkbait and a crankbait.
Lake Muskegon is only an hour and 15-minute drive from VanDam's home in Kalamazoo, Aaron Martens has dubbed this event The Kevin VanDam Tournament.
"I grew up fishing here," VanDam said at today's launch. "But I haven't fished a tournament here in about 20 years."
Whatever the case, VanDam is definitely the favorite here. BASSTRAKK currently shows him in sixth place with three fish weighing about 6 pounds.
