This photo is of John Murray prior to losing his lower unit 100+ miles from launch. Thank goodness for good friends and Southern hospitality. A big thanks to Loren Stelly and John Finley of Jennings, La., for getting us (Murray and B.A.S.S. Marshal Cory Harris) a ride back to Orange! Photo by Cory Harris.

After leaving Aaron Martens, who hadn't boated a keeper at Noon, Shaye Baker and I struggled to find another Elite Series angler. This is a vast river system.
Bradley Roy zoomed by us going the opposite direction, but signaled on his way past us that he had two keepers.
Then we found Fletcher Shryock for a short visit. Shryock said he had three keepers, and had caught a total of about 20 bass today.
"A couple were 13 1/2 inches and one was 13 7/8ths," he said. "That just breaks your heart when you don't have a limit in the boat yet."

Paul Elias is fishing way, way back up in a little channel off the main river. He has not caught a keeper today.
"Nothing close," he said. This is the same place where he caught a 7-pounder in practice.
When we caught up with him he added, "Lord, you told me to trust you. Now help me catch a fish."
