Mark Davis is trying to finish off this tournament that he has led for the past two days. If he can close it out, it would be his first Bassmaster win since 2005. That's a long dry spell for one of the most accomplished anglers in BASS history, and one of the all-time nicest guys on the circuit. Davis has won both the Bassmaster Classic (1995) and three Angler of the Year titles ('95, '98 and '01). He will be 50 years old in October, and he'd relish proving today that he's still got what it takes to win out here. He's making a long run – uncharacteristic for him – to Lake Erie. He's got a spot to himself that is stacked with big but finicky smallmouth bass. "I may only get seven bites all day," Davis said. "But if you catch five of these fish, they're going to weigh 20 pounds. That's the thing that keeps me there, the quality. Tuesday (during practice) I caught 25 pounds there." Twenty-five would definitely seal the deal for Davis.
